My ignorance ended a few weeks ago when I finally took the plunge to visit. A long 22 hour bus ride brought me first to the town of Trelew, were I was greeted first thing in the morning by the fact that it was a Welsh town. As a girl from England, I couldn’t quite believe that I’d finally made it all the way to exotic Patagonia, only to find that the place was full of Welshies. I excaped by making a trip to a National Reserve full of flappy penguins, who’d just come on to shore in Punta Tomba to lay their eggs. The eggs had hatched, so I saw a few hundred bambina penguins with their parents penguin couple. Did you know penguin mates stay together for life? True story.
