The "other" Hampton Court maze ( by Thriller in Hope under Dinmore, United Kingdom )

Even their website points out that THE Hampton Court you are probably looking for is the one near London, and helpfully provides a link to it.

I wonder just how many people have made the journey into deepest Herefordshire only to realise their mistake. For the record this Hampton Court in near Leominster, which is about 150 miles away!!

The Ecrehous - the islands in the middle of nowhere ( by Thriller in Marmotier, United Kingdom )

The Ecrehous (Les Ecréhou in French or L's Êcréhos in Jèrriais, the Norman language spoken in Jersey) is an archipelago of minute islets and rocks that are part of the Bailiwick of Jersey.

Sticking ominously out of the sea about seven miles to the north east of Jersey, and about ten miles from the coast of France, they have been occupied on and off since the 10th century when a monastery was set up there.

(For those who don’t know Jersey isn't actually part of the UK, nor the European Union, but is rather a separate possession of the Crown, comparable to the Isle of Man.)

Be the King of the Castle (for only €2.90) ( by Thriller in Cahir, Ireland )

Yes that's right, it's only €2.90 to have the complete run of your own castle. Well as it was a cold and wet February afternoon, we were pretty much the only visitors to Cahir Castle at the time.

Built in 1152, it is one of the largest castles in Ireland, and certainly has all the necessary castle like features you would wish for. A great hall (to shelter from the rain), battlements that you can actually climb on (though don’t fall off as it really would hurt) and a river that surrounds you on all sides (to protect you from your enemies) because, low and behold, you are on your own island too (you can't get much cooler than that) and last but not least........

Did you know there are 8 Cashels in Ireland? ( by Thriller in Cashel, Ireland )

Tipperary, most famous for the pre WW1 song "It's A Long Way To Tipperary" is also known as the centre of horseracing in Ireland. There are many trainers in the county, as well as racecourses at Clonmel, Thurles and Tipperary city and the world famous Coolmore Stud is based near Fethard. But there are some more historic reasons to make your way to Tipperary.

I didn't realise that there are actually 8 Cashels in Ireland? I looked them up to write this. You would do well to check where you are going when in Ireland, as a lot of placenames are reused. There might be 7 other Cashels, but only one "Rock of Cashel".

This is an extraordinary collection of religious buildings dating from between 1100 and 1250 that are some of the best preserved in all of Europe.

The new Glasshouse at the RHS ( by Thriller in Wisley, United Kingdom )

I was given really privileged access when I was allowed inside the brand new Glasshouse at the Royal Horticultural Society's HQ near Wisley in Surrey. As part of a newspaper assignment I was allowed to photograph it as they were putting the finishing touches to the planting four weeks before HM The Queen was due to open it to the public on 26th June. It is a fabulous addition to the society's wonderful gardens at Wisley, arguably Britain’s best loved garden on a 240 acres site, it offers a fascinating blend of the beautiful with practical and innovative design and cultivation techniques.

Mozart was 250 last year! ( by Thriller in Salzburg, Austria )

I had to make a business trip with a top designer colleague, Stu Smith, to Passau in the south of Germany to oversee the printing of a book of photography. Munich was supposedly the nearest airport, so I looked up flights and was horrified to find that British Airways were charging £379 pounds for a return ticket. Simple I though. Try Lufthansa. As the national airline, they were bound to be cheaper. Alas, flights at the same time were going to be over £400. This was all very grating, especially as I could have flown to New York for that much, and had plenty of change.

I then got the map out and saw that Salzburg in Austria was almost equidistant to Passau as Munich was. Low and behold, good old Ryanair flew to Salzburg. And for only £99. What a winner.

Bring on the cakes! ( by Thriller in Lisbon, Portugal )

Lisbon (Portuguese: Lisboa) is the capital and largest city of Portugal. It is also the seat of the district of Lisbon and capital of the Lisbon region. Its municipality, which is the city proper excluding the large contiguous urban agglomeration, has a population of 564,477, and the Lisbon Metropolitan Area in total has around 2,800,000 inhabitants - the largest urban agglomeration of Portugal. Due to its economic output, standard of living, and market size, Greater Lisbon subregion is among the major financial and economic centers of the Iberian Peninsula. It is also the political center of the country, as seat of government and residence of the Head of State. However nobody cares about all that, all they care about are the CAKES!!!!!!
