Trekking across the Tobago hillside in the lush, green, Caribbean forest, to see a real life waterfall sounded like a brilliant idea until we pulled up outside of a house in the wilderness with a sign stating “Rainbow Waterfall Resort”. An elderly couple came out and greeted us. They told us how to get to the waterfall and told us how much per person it would cost us to walk there!
Fortunately, one of the men from our group must have been a boy scout when he was younger because he took charge of the group and led us through the under growth. We could hear the hissing of the snakes, the squawking of the birds and the rustling of the leaves, as the wind passed through the tropical forest.
We soon came upon a stream and crossed it. The ice-water soothed my aching feet. We then had to cross an even larger stream, which we girls needed help with, so holding hands in a chain we made our way up river.
We were almost there; the sound of gushing water filled the air as we climbed the last broken track uphill. There it was in all its glory, the Rainbow Waterfall, a spray of cold, cloudy, water wet us. Everyone screamed in excitement.
