As an Italy lover, I have to say that the best way to do the Amalfi coast with a group of people is to rent a villa. They are beautiful, private, and actually more affordable than renting three or four hotel rooms.

VIlla Marchesa became our home away from home. The house sits about a 15 minute walk from Amalfi town (the least touristy town around) on a cliff. Walking down from the main road orange and lemon trees guide you through beautiful hanging gardens and ultimately a peaceful villa.

All of the villas in this area have large front patios, big kitchens, and tasteful decorations inside. The rooms each usually have a balcony overlooking the water and private bathrooms.

My favorite part of these villas is the hundreds of stairs leading directly down to the ocean. A perfect spot to flag down a sailor and ask for a ride into town.

Hotel Di Cavalieri owns the villas and has a wonderful staff. Their rates are best in the off season (winter) and the town is quite relaxing too!

Make sure to stop by the pastry shop next to the giant church near the port...ask for whatever looks fresh!

I wish I was there right now. That would be like a dream come true to stay in a villa on the Amalifi Coast, can't get better than that! The water looks so clear and inviting and the villa sounds charming.
