Lucysoff's travel blog in Gibraltar, Gibraltar. She went on 20 of July 2006 for 1 day. She went for tourism. Lucysoff went with a group of friends. She got there and around by car or van, walking. lucysoff's travel verdict is: maybe for some, not me.

Well.

I have to be honest; Gibraltar didn’t really strike a chord with me. In all fairness, I was feeling pretty grotty when we visited and it started raining as soon as we crossed the border so it didn’t stand a huge chance.

Me being lovingly cared for.

Me being lovingly cared for.

I’ve heard wonderful things about this place, so I don’t want to be too mean about it- I’m sure many people have had lovely visits there. However, the overpriced chain pubs, the grey blocks of flats, the overcrowded high street and the smelly cafes just reminded me of all the worst bits of Britain squashed onto a big rock.

I tried to get more in the spirit by donning some socks with my sandals.

We didn’t go on the cable car because it was hugely expensive and the weather was less than optimal. Obviously, this means we missed the highlights- the monkeys and the views from the top.

There were other compensations: the cheap booze and the telephone boxes made up for a lot of wrongs. Crossing an airport runway to get onto the island was also quite an experience (even though we didn’t actually see a plane).

Yay!

Yay!

I would actually like to go back here- I think it probably has a lot more charm when one’s pocket is slightly less empty and the weather is less British in nature!

Hmmm...
