Wow, this place is cool!
Never ever has parking the car been such a treat. The car park that sits in the Piazzale Michelangelo has the most wonderful view over Florence.
Now architecture normally doesn’t do it for me, but this my friends is not just any architecture, its big, beautiful and breath taking.
It’s a view that speaks poetic lines; in its mountainous backdrop is bulbous Duomo, the bisecting bridges and that’s just for starters. Once you start walking into the scene the intricacies are endless. Its the kind of place where the camera keeps jumping out of your pocket. It is the epitome of picturesque!
My wonderful guides for the day, knowing that I am studying art, pulled me down into the centre of Florence where we visited the world famous Uffizi Gallery. This place houses the names of Renaissance art. I’m talking the big wigs; Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, high calibre stuff.
We decided to chose a selection of pieces and went and sat and sketched them. The added bonus of this is you tend to get quite a good view as other tourists give the next ‘great masters’ room for much needed practice. It’s a amazing feeling to follow with your eyes and hands the same lines as these artists did hundreds of years ago.
A little embarressed by my poor attempt at a Botticelli, but more in ore than ever of the skills involved, we left the Uffizzi.
The rest of the day was spent soaking up the atmosphere, crossing the Ponte Vecchio bridge and standing with gaping mouth looking at the truly amazing Michelangelo’s ‘David’ sculpture.
Now that’s what I call a bum!

Isn't Florence just gorgeous (and not only for the sculpture)?! Browsing the shops on the Ponte Vecchio is just a perfect Italian experience.
