Jadelisa's travel blog in Bangkok, Thailand. She went on 22 of June 2005 for 5 days. She went for culture, food, shopping. Jadelisa went with a friend. She got there and around by bus or coach, train. Jadelisa's travel verdict is: you must go here.

I Heart Shopping. I particularly Heart shopping if it's bloody cheap and there's a bargain to be had. So give me 15,000 market stalls of pure cheap shopping pleasure and I am there faster than a line of coke up a celebrity's nose.

Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok is just what the doctor ordered to feed a discount shopping addiction. And God bless the Great British pound for crippling every other currency, because in Thailand, that makes me a rich woman. Don't get me wrong, I have morals somewhere, but when it comes to shopping I am a shameless materialistic bitch.

Taking in the first hit of this mammoth sized market will cause shockwaves of excitement to race through your veins if your craving for a bargain runs as deep as mine. The sparkle of a sequinned shoe; an entire colour spectrum of sarongs; bright lanterns dangling from above; triangular axe pillows scattered high; watches, trinkets, jeans, jewellery, ceramics… the hum and roar of many a barter taking place. This is shopping at its very best.

Maze designers should take inspiration from the dizzying layout: maps are available but they prove quite pointless, as trying to keep one eye on that and another on the deliciously delectable goods on offer is just disorientating. A lot of the market is also undercover, which is rather like shopping in a gigantic tent. And tents aren't the coolest of places when the sun is shining. But there are plenty of food stalls to pick up some cheap nosh and water to replenish your senses.

This is a market that heaves and sways with the sweaty throng of tourists and locals and you'll be brushing skin with others more than once, making this a haven for pickpockets, so watch your valuables. Give it a few hours of endless walking and you'll also end up a sweaty mess. Talk about a bad comedown. But at least you can bathe in the glow of picking up some truly amazing bargains. Primark will never match up.
