Hugo's travel blog in Kahuzi-Biega National Park, Congo (Kinshasa). He went on 22 of July 1991 for 1 day. He went for tourism, adventure, adrenaline, get closer to nature. Hugo went with a group of friends. He got there and around by airplane/helicopter, walking, car/van. It is hugo's favorite place.

Unsure if I have got the location of this quite right. We hitched a lift out to Kahuzi Biega National Park from Goma and did it in a day trip. I think that was a touch lucky as it was a long long day (especially on the legs).

The walk to find the gorillas (without any mist in sight) was a monster 5-6 hours (and felt like a lot longer). It started gently enough but soon plunged upwards through thick forest (jungle?) with our guides occassionally getting excited at pieces of allegedly fresh dung. We were almost at our wits end when we struck lucky and found a group of gorillas including two silverbacks. Sadly I have lost some of my best photos but here is a taster. Although it won't show from these photos this was the most exhilerating and exciting animal experience I have ever had. The Mountain Gorilla is preposterously huge. His arms are the size of my waste and it is very humbling to be in their presence...especially when they want to ensure you know who is boss and they charge you down and make a bit of a fuss. Quite incredible and a day that I will never forget.
