Hugo's travel blog in Lizard Island, Australia. He went on 10 of May 2002 for 3 days. He went for beach, adventure, relaxation, peace & quiet, get closer to nature. Hugo went with a group of friends. He got there and around by airplane/helicopter, walking. Hugo's travel verdict is: you must go here.

Lizard Island is a bit of a shag to get to but that is part of the reason for going.

As it happens a lot of sailing boats saunter by Lizard Island and there is apparently a resort there but Will, Mac and I were drawn by the allure of the wild campsite there and the promise of adventure...mainly it seems in the shape of a cheeky flight in a boat plane which was the only way we were going to get there.

So, Lizard Island was a great spot and you do get a fair sense of adventure and tranquility but you will need to rely on the company of those you travel for it to be worthwhile.

The highlights were, in order of excitement, the plane journey (with our slight bonkers captain), the Climb to Cook's look-out, a fight between the two giant lizards that were after our left-overs and the bottle of 1977 vintage port that we carried at the bottom of our rucksacks and drank by the fire and under the wonderful stars of the Oz night...

Rather oddly I have no photos actually of Lizard Island...I promise that the views from Cooks Look were rather impressive though.

my aunt and uncle are headed to Lizard Island in just a few months. It ranks high on the must-do list for its sheer beauty. They'll be in the resort, which boasts rooms so chic and luxe that one can walk out the door of their room and have their toes in the sand first thing in the morning. It sounds incredible. Twenty-two distinct beaches on this wee island of natural wonder.

    You certainly get about!

Ah, the Resort. Most envious. Hopefully I can do that next time! Wonderful place and I would go back and next time take a step up from the campsite.
