Classic Bungle Bungle Formations

The Kimberly's are a beautiful neck of the woods (or desert for that matter). Perfect Oz territory, hour upon hour of dirt roads with that wonderful desolate outback streching to the horizon.

A highlight was the brief 2 day trip into the Bungle Bungles (sorry PernuLuLu) where the striped bee hive rock formations completely absorb you. Much of the site is off limits as it is an ancient aboriginal burial ground of great significance but what you can see is fabulous enough.

We had a fun nights camping, a few easy walks into watering holes and also a cheeky helicopter ride to make the most of the views.

We could have done with more time here but we had blown our schedule a bit. There were many more great walks to do. The heli-ride was highly recommended - the views from the air (not done justice by the rather poor pics) were simply transfixing. Never seen rock formations like it; stunning. No wonder this is a significant place of spiritual importance to Aboriginals.

Wow it sounds/looks absolutely stunning. Reminds me a little of the wadis n southern Israel. What kind of price would you have to pay for the heli ride?

Awesome stuff. Can't wait to get round to seeing Australia. I was going to ask as well - how much for the helicopter ride?

I'm trying to remember how much. I have a bad memory and it was a while ago but the sum of AU $130 sticks in my mind but might be wrong. The bottom line was that it was expensive but highly memorable. I love keeping the accommodation simple (like staying in a tent) but splurging on wonderful memories like this helicopter ride.
