Hugo's travel blog in Kununurra, Australia. He went on 23 of April 2003 for 1 day. He went for adventure, peace & quiet, get closer to nature. Hugo went with a group of friends. He got there and around by boat or ferry. Hugo's travel verdict is: recommended.

This was a fun adventure but we were quite pleased we only did the 2 day rather than 3 day canoe trip. As the river got wider and slower the canoeing got harder and harder and it was a relief to be picked up by the Speed boat on the evening of day 2. All the more so because 'the girls' canoe had a whoopsy on the first morning and soaked all their sleeping gear. The chaps valiantly stayed in the canoes to...ahem...make sure no crocs were nearby.

All good so far...

There is one spot on the first day where there are some light rapids. The girls took a cunning route imbetween a small island in the middle of the river which apparently had a log blocking it, which caused a touch of strife.

Oops...don't worry about the crocs, it's fine.

Yup, that was worth a closer look.

Actually a great little trip. There are some fun places to swim along the way, that are apparently fine. No crocs at all. Hmm. I'm sure that looked like a croc.

The campsite was also a fun little nest, complete with dinning table and classic Oz outdoor dunnie-with-a-view plus a small outcrop to climb where you can get some fine views along the river.

Many thanks. Unfortunately I lost a batch of photos, the best of which was the crocodiles eyes reflecting torchlight ,just beneath the campsite. Spooky!
Yes this was part of a bigger trip around the wonderful NW of Oz in the Kimberly's. We only had 3 weeks, which was not nearly enough but it is a fantastic neck of the woods: Bungle Bungles, El Questro, Ord River and much more which we didn't get to. I love the dirt roads of the Oz outback and the camp fires at night - the stars are quite unreal. Hugely recommended and I will certainly go back.
