Ok, so I didn't plan it. There were more crowds than usual as I approached Buckingham Place hoping to walk on through Green Park and on upto a Picnic (wishful thinking on all fronts) in St James's Park....but i stumbled into a mass of people, colour and excitement. "Today is Trooping the Colour", says a helpful Bobby dressed in wartime era uniform - "have you not sent her a birthday card".
Even though the Queen has her birthday on April 21st a public celebration is held some time in June...for the good weather...
Below are a few pictures of the Trooping the colour which I admit are pretty poor. Apologies, I was a bit hampered by running out of camera memory, the torrential rain and indavertently getting stuck in totally the wrong place when the crowd was locked-down. Today it was more like 'Trooping the Damp Grey Squib'. Actually that is a bit unfair but with comic timing the skies opened up with torrential rain 30 seconds before the legendary fly-past. Even so the stream of historic bombers, modern fighter jets and the childishly exciting Red Arrows (which left a tremendous streak of red, white and blue the length of Pall Mall over the top of Buckingham Palace) was a true British spectacle.
Sorry not to have a decent picture of the Red Arrows, I was thoroughly wet and out of camera memory by that stage. Great sight though and highly recommended. I just hope you have better weather than me if you go next year...

Thriller says...
Great pics, but you should get a better camera as I think your forth photo is of a Spitfire, or a Hurricane. The Lancaster is the four engined bomber in the formation of planes in the fifth picture. My grandfather was a rear-gunner or "tail end Charlie" in WW2.
