FairTrade frolicking ( by diddymouse in Lilongwe, Malawi )

Fair Grounds, a Bradford based social enterprise is up and running, but whilst still in the conceiving stages its founder Nina and a friend came and visited me in Malawi to visit three Fair Trade co-operatives and see if they deliver what is pertained and the actual impact they have on the people who work for them.

Fuori Porta ( by diddymouse in Florence, Italy )

Italian food all sounds amazing on the menu and the quality of everyday eating is generally a very high standard. But there are places that excede expectations and satiate both apetite and desire.

Lakesea ( by diddymouse in Nkhata Bay, Malawi )

Imagine an ocean without salt. This was my simplistic view when I visited Lake Malawi. A lake that is a third of the country clearly is pretty big and so standing on the shore you could be mistaken that you are simply looking out to sea. The real delight however is bounding into the cool water on a roasting African midday and being able to swallow the water without burning your throat and drying naturally without the salt residues!

Rambutan living ( by diddymouse in Hoskins, Papua New Guinea )

Paradise is a term used way too often when describing somewhere, first of all quite often those impeccable white beaches are full of sand fleas and the turquoise ocean full of sea lice. But when I arrived in Papua New Guinea I really felt that I had been sent to a paradise, not free of imperfections, but one that enabled me to live more in accord with the natural world.

Spontaneous camping in the Dales ( by diddymouse in Settle, United Kingdom )

This weekend was so good because it was so spontaneous. Here I was sitting in a warm house with two friends trying to decide what to do for the weekend. We all were agreed on one thing, we wanted to get out of the city and away - so camping it is then!!!

Yamoussoukro Aftiti ( by diddymouse in Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast )

And there it is that smell. Anyone who’s been to Africa knows exactly what I am talking about, for those of you who haven’t, this is the smell that reminds your body and soul that you are on a continent that lovingly welcomes you and permeates. It smells rich and dark, this is Africa!

The Mulanje Massif ( by diddymouse in Mulanje, Malawi )

‘Our feet have nerves and senses so why cover and protect them, let them feel the earth man!’ This was the response Gideon, our guide, gave us before our ascent of Mount Mulanje. Having spent a reasonable time in Malawi my time was starting to become shaped and days were becoming routine, but here was an experience that threw me and added another dimension to Malawi.
