Imagine an ocean without salt. This was my simplistic view when I visited Lake Malawi. A lake that is a third of the country clearly is pretty big and so standing on the shore you could be mistaken that you are simply looking out to sea. The real delight however is bounding into the cool water on a roasting African midday and being able to swallow the water without burning your throat and drying naturally without the salt residues!

Diddymouse's travel blog in Nkhata Bay, Malawi. He went on 10 of April 2005 for 20 days. He went for beach. Diddymouse went with a friend. He got there and around by car or van. diddymouse's travel verdict is: recommended.
I stayed a few weekends out on the Lake. I enjoyed both the touristy areas around Senga Bay where you can buy all the crafts that you want, but more enjoyable was travelling further north on the costal road and staying in more rural areas. Kande beach was an amazing place, so simple but complete. I stayed in accommodation with no running water and no electricity, just me, the lake and some good books.
This is the most perfect place to relax. A time to read in the sun, eat the local fish, and bathe in the lake. You even have the opportunity to put up your mosi nets on the beach and spend in the night under the stars.
