Riverboats on the Quaint and Charming Thames River

Riverboats on the Quaint and Charming Thames River

Ahhh - England in the summertime! When the sun does decide to shine, and the Pimm's is free flowing, there is something so charming and quaint about this part of the world.

To have sun on a weekend is even more of a special treat, and an opportunity that must be seized immediately. The best place to really feel like you are experiencing summer is the Thames River. It is a hot bed of activitiy during the summer months, both on the water and off.

There are many pathways and trails that meander along the river and connect villages together. We set off one Saturday morning with our bicycles to find out exactly where the path from Reading leads to.

Our hearts desire was to find the quaintest, cutest pub on the river to sit outdoors, eat a roast lunch, and read our papers. We left from the town of Reading and made our way to the river. After riding along the path for 2 km we came across the Sonning Lock; a quaint little place to have cream tea, but no sign of a pub in sight.

As we entered Sonning, we asked a couple who were relaxing on their boat where a river side pub was. They said another 4 km from Sonning, but that there was one just up the road in Sonning called the Bull. Famished and thirsty, we decided we would head inland and check out the Old Bull.

The Old Bull was exactly what we were looking for, a traditional old English pub, but instead of being river side, it bordered an old Church and cemetary. We still were able to enjoy the sun, read the papers and feast on a ploughman's lunch and cider! A wonderful way to spend a Saturday in Reading!
