Christmas at Barcelona means visiting "La Fira de Santa Llúcia". It's a very big fair dedicated to Christmas and its decorations, including trees, lighting, Santa Claus' dolls, ...
It is placed at la Catedral's square every year during december.
If you are looking for ornaments to feel the Christmas spirit at home, this is the right place to go. Moreover, you will discover some catalan traditions by visiting the fair.
For example, "El caganer". It's translation, and I'm sorry but it's like this, is "the crapper". It's a figure we place in our nativity scene, and it simbolizes good luck and prosperity for the next year.
There is also the Tió. This character is a wood trunk, dressed with a catalan hat. Children have to find him in the forest, and take him home. They feed him, and on Christmas day, they hit him with a stick singing songs, and he gives them candy and presents.
If you want to know the song we sing as we hit the Tió or some "caganers" based in famous people, take a look at this video.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2010!
