A Week in Whitby ( by mollytron in Whitby, United Kingdom )

Whitby and the surrounding area is absolutely beautiful. Such a nice, peaceful seaside village, and pleasant even in horrible October weather! The seafood was outstanding. I definitely recommend booking a table at Magpie Cafe while you're there http://www.magpiecafe.co.uk/. Best fish and chips in the country, according to experts! Try the 6 mile walk to Robin Hood's Bay for some beautiful scenery and exercise.

Banksy ( by Hils in London, United Kingdom )

For all those who didn't get to see the Banksy stuff at Waterloo last summer here are my images.

It was only there for a short time so there were huge numbers of people waiting to get in - the whole experience was great and it was good to be there. It took about 2.5 hrs to get in - waiting in the blazing sun (OK - this is england, so perhaps that is a slight exaggeration) - my camera battery ran out so I didn't get everything. However - here it is to share - so enjoy - after taking the photos I had to go back to the beginning to just see it all again.
Thanks Banksy and to everyone who helped - marshalls, tunnel providers etc

Pottering North through Scotland ( by Hugo in Thurso, United Kingdom )

This summer I started my explorations of Scotland. Rather than detail all my little forays, here is a little montage to whet your appetite and share some of the mini-highlights. So much more to see, cannot wait to do some more pottering.

The mind boggling Edinburgh Fireworks concert ( by Hugo in Edinburgh, United Kingdom )

I've heard much of the grand finale of the international edinburgh arts festival - the fireworks over the edinburgh castle - but had never made it. Last night, after a last-minute trip, a friend managed (heroically) to win the ticket-lottery to get the mightily sought-after bits of paper to get entry to the seated stand below the castle. Cripes; it was absolutely mind-bogglingly stunning and I shall never forget it. The setting was terrific with the edinburgh castle perched above us but once you add in the mix of the scottish royal orchestra strumming a little Brahms and Dvorjak set to a magnificently timed orgy of fireworks you have something a tad special. The cherry on the cake was the cascading waterfall from the castle wall down the side of the rock face - quite magical. A few brief images of the evening below....highly recommended. I hope to go back.

The John O Groats Myth is Dead ( by Hugo in Dunnet Head, United Kingdom )

I'm sorry to spill the beans but Dunnet Head is apparently the most northerly point on UK mainland. So all you folks who walked, ran, biked, hopped or hitched from John O Groats to Lands end....what were you thinking?

All you need to know in the photo below...

Dead Man's House & The Hostel ( by Hollie-Miller in Loch Lomond, United Kingdom )

My sister recently got a job at a youth hostel in Loch Lomond. I have stayed there before and I think it is one of my favourite places in Scotland. It sits overlooking the Loch, the grand estate sweeps over the hillside.
