<title>Mush! ( by Alexandra in Whistler, Canada )</title>
<description>I&#8217;ve been wanting to do this for years, and when my plans were scuppered in Alaska (no snow &#8211; go figure!) I was determined to get on a dog sled and drive a team before the winter was out.

I woke up early at the cozy UBC hostel, raring to go. I drove the Boyfriend nuts over eggs benny in Creekside&#8217;s Southside Diner, wondering aloud about the dogs, the sleds, the commands&#8230;and boring him with stories from the Yukon Quest book I was reading. Finally, it was time to go.

<title>A White Whistler Christmas ( by Alexandra in Whistler, Canada )</title>
<description>Just past Squamish, we drove into the snow. The Mother-in-Law squealed with delight and started a grin that would last 4 days. Here was the White Christmas she&#8217;d been waiting for.

<title>Dog Sledding Ontario ( by camillaskye in Wiarton, Ontario, Canada )</title>
<description>Canada, even southern Canada, is often believed to be an eternal land of snow and ice. Even relatively northern parts of the United States think of their northern neighbour as a kind of Arctic wasteland inhabited by huskies, polar bears, and pack ice. In the midst of a bitter January in Ontario, the idea seems plausible.

The Bruce Peninsula juts out between Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, catching winter weather with the limestone ridge of the Niagara Escarpment and dropping heavy snowfalls on fields and cedar woods, farm houses and drystone walls. Mountain Lake, where Singing Dogs &#8211; one of a handful of Ontario operators &#8211; bases their dog sledding adventures, is, in January, as close to the Arctic as I&#8217;m generally willing to go. </description>

<title>Slopes, Shiraz and Snowstorms ( by Charlotte in Vernon, Canada )</title>
<description>Canada is well known as a winter wonderland, and skiing is an imperative activity if you happen to visit during the extended season which stretches between November to April. With Christmas over, and New Years looming, it seemed a natural decision to pack up our gear and head to the slopes of world famous Whistler. However, after checking the bank balances, we decided to head into the direction of the famous champagne powder of the Okanagan Valley, rather than the extortionate rates of Whistler. We set out to discover the wonderful wines and vast slopes with no lines of Apex Mountain in Penticton and Silverstar Mountain in Vernon.

<title>Riding Vancouver's 'Local Mountains' ( by Alexandra in Vancouver, Canada )</title>
<description>Yes, we&#8217;ve got Whistler-Blackcomb, and it&#8217;s fabulous year round. We also have that famous &#8216;champagne powder&#8217; in the BC Interior that everyone should roll in at least once. But what do you do when you need a fix at 9pm after work on a Wednesday?

Vancouver&#8217;s three &#8216;local mountains&#8217; are all within a half-hour drive of the downtown core. They&#8217;re wet, they&#8217;re icy, they&#8217;re nuts on a Saturday, but they&#8217;re ours and they&#8217;re one major benefit of living in this city.
